Basic Info.

Our Low Loss Solar PV Step-Up Dry Type Transformer is manufactured using a vacuum epoxy resin casting process to provide reliable electrical insulation, mechanical strength and environmental resistance under demanding photovoltaic operating conditions. As a low loss efficiency dry transformer for Solar PV project applications, the unit is optimized for long-term operation under fluctuating photovoltaic loads and inverter-related harmonic conditions. A low-loss grain-oriented silicon steel core helps reduce no-load losses, while the optimized winding structure provides reliable electrical performance and strong resistance to short-circuit forces.

Depending on the capacity and voltage requirements, the winding structure can be configured with optimized foil or other suitable winding designs. The transformer can be engineered according to the specific characteristics of the PV inverter and medium-voltage collection system. Both standard dual-winding and optional double split-winding configurations are available. The split-winding version allows two independent inverter groups to be connected separately for shortcircuit current limiting and branchfault isolation inside PV pad-mounted transformer.

Solar PV Transformer Working Principle

A Solar PV Step-Up Dry Type Transformer is installed between the PV inverter and the medium-voltage power collection or grid connection system.

The typical power flow is:

Solar Panels → PV Inverter → Low-Voltage AC → PV Step-Up Transformer → Medium-Voltage Collection System → Utility Grid

Solar panels generate DC electricity, which is converted into AC electricity by the PV inverter. The inverter normally outputs low-voltage AC power, such as 0.8kV.

The PV step-up transformer increases this voltage to a medium-voltage level such as 10.5kV or 35kV, allowing electricity to be collected and transmitted more efficiently within the solar power plant.

Because PV inverter output varies with solar irradiance and may contain harmonic components, the transformer needs to operate reliably under changing loads. The optimized winding and magnetic core design helps the transformer maintain stable performance under these operating conditions.

Key Features

1. Optimized for Solar PV Operating Conditions

The transformer is designed around the fluctuating output characteristics of photovoltaic power generation. Its winding and electrical design can be optimized for inverter-related harmonic loads, short-time overloads and changing PV operating conditions.

2. Low-Loss and High-Efficiency Design

A low-loss grain-oriented silicon steel core and optimized winding structure help reduce no-load and load losses. This improves operating efficiency and helps reduce energy losses over the service life of the solar power plant.

3. Cast Resin Insulation and Oil-Free Safety

Vacuum cast epoxy resin insulation provides flame-retardant, moisture-resistant and mechanically stable performance. The oil-free design eliminates oil leakage risks and reduces fire hazards, making it suitable for solar installations where operational safety is critical.

4. Strong Short-Circuit Resistance

The winding structure is mechanically reinforced to withstand short-circuit forces and electromagnetic stress, supporting reliable operation under demanding PV system conditions.

5. Flexible Protection and Environmental Options

The standard IP20 configuration is suitable for indoor applications or installation inside a suitable pad-mounted transformer enclosure.

For independent outdoor applications, IP54 enclosure protection is available. Customized anti-corrosion coatings can also be specified for coastal, humid, dusty or industrial environments.

6. Multi-Standard Project Support

The transformer can be designed and manufactured according to applicable GB/T, IEC 60076 and IEEE requirements based on target market and project specifications.

FAQ

Q1: What is a Solar PV Step-Up Dry Type Transformer?

A Solar PV Step-Up Dry Type Transformer is used to increase the low-voltage AC output of a solar PV inverter to a medium-voltage level for power collection or grid connection.

Typical configurations include 0.8/10.5kV and 0.8/35kV.

Q2: Is this transformer different from an ordinary distribution dry transformer?

Yes. Although both products may use cast resin insulation and have a similar external appearance, a PV transformer is configured according to the operating characteristics of solar power systems.

The winding design, voltage ratio, impedance, thermal performance and other parameters can be optimized for PV inverter operation and fluctuating solar loads.

Q3: Can this dry transformer be installed inside a pad-mounted transformer?

Yes. The transformer can be designed as an internal step-up unit for a pad-mounted transformer according to the required dimensions, capacity, voltage ratio, cooling method and protection requirements.
